Vend Product Updates

Packaging allows you to define a package relationship between multiple products. As an example, you may have a twenty-four case of beer that holds x4 six-packs and if you open a six-pack, you get x6 singles. These are all essentially the same product, just that they come in different packaging.

With packaged products, you have the flexibility to use the different packaging quantities that your products are available in, throughout the many in store workflows; from ordering, all the way through to selling. You can order in the quantity that your supplier sells to you and when you receive the products into your store, you can easily break them down into the products that you'll sell to your customers — optimizing inventory management across your packaged products.

You can easily reconcile online payments across channels, all within your Vend by Lightspeed store.

Map your online payment types in the app configuration page, and also set up a default payment type if an online order with an unmapped payment type is pulled across. When an order is imported from BigCommerce or WooCommerce, the payment method for that order will be mapped to the corresponding payment type.

You can now delete products on the Catalog page - and in bulk too!

Because a product can’t be deleted if it’s in an open sale/consignment/count or composite, we now show a quick link to each item so you can easily close/cancel before deleting the product.

The inventory report’s date range picker, report type picker, inactive products toggle, and filters have been updated to stop reloading the report every time one of them has changed. You can now make multiple changes before triggering the report generation by clicking on the search button.

In our most recent version (v 5.1.0) of the iOS register app, you can now email sales quotes directly from the ‘Sell Screen’ instead of going to the sales history page and emailing the quote from there.

Promotion spreading on sales

In some cases, previously a promotion would spread the discount confusingly across all products. Promotions are now displayed only on products that the discount is applied to.

Fewer rounding errors

We have fixed a case where previously sales were being underpaid due to a rounding issue which was resulting in 0.01 balances for sales and your customers.

In our latest version of the Scanner for Android app, you can now receive inventory, without having to first create a purchase order on the web. If shipments arrive that don't yet have a purchase order, you can now create the order and receive it straight away, all on the app. This improves ease-of-use and helps you keep inventory and stock levels accurate.

We’ve now released an ‘Add standard product’ feature for Scanner on iOS so you can easily add products from your shop-floor. To use the ‘add product’ feature simply open the products tab in Scanner for iOS and choose ‘add product.’ Otherwise, if you search or scan a product that doesn't yet exist you'll be prompted. Please note our team is still working on this feature being available for adding ‘Variant Products’.

We've updated our color scheme to give our POS more of a sleek, modern feel. Although it looks a little different now, the functionality of stores remains unchanged. Retailers can find all features in the same place, doing the same great things.

A common request we received about the new Add Product modal, was to add Markup functionality. We’ve taken that feedback onboard, and Markup is now available to view or edit when setting the retail price for products.

Product supplier codes are now visible when ordering or receiving stock, helping retailers accurately manage stock. The supplier code is displayed next to the SKU code of stock order lists. When ordering or receiving stock, retailers can search by the supplier code, to ensure the correct product is selected.

Kiwi retailers can now pair Verifone payment terminals using the new integration developed by Verifone called Vcloud.

AfterPay has advised that the decommission date for the barcode system for New Zealand retailers will be 15th February 2022, superseded by contactless payment via Google Pay or Apple Wallet using the AfterPay Card.

In our latest version (1.1.0) of the Scanner for Android app, retailers can now receive orders and transfers with Android devices. Also available on the iOS version of Scanner, this function allows retailers to optimise receiving inventory so they can quickly get their goods on the shelf.

We're working on an update for retailers that accept multiple payment types on WooCommerce or BigCommerce online stores. The solution we're building will allow retailers to see their online payments, broken down by payment type, to easily reconcile and report on them, all in one place.

We listened to retailer feedback and will be reverting the ‘Add Product’ button back to show the full Add Product page, enabling retailers to add all product information on one page. The simple ‘quick add window’ will still be available when Ordering or Receiving stock, and will soon be added to the Sell screen, too.

We’ve added a ‘Create count’ feature to the Scanner Android version so you can create new inventory counts with ease. Simply click the + button in the top right corner of the screen and choose either Count Now or Schedule Count to get started.

We’ve now made a fix for on-hand or low inventory report so it uses the on-hand inventory at the date selected if the report is requested for a historical date range to ensure that the rows in the report match the totals displayed in the store, particularly when the report is exported to CSV.

The bulk action Add products to order has been added to the Products page, so that you can procure products quickly when you see your inventory is running low.

We’ve made it even easier for products to be found online for retailers with eCommerce integrations. Following best SEO practices, product images added to Vend will now be uploaded to online stores using the image file name (ie ‘red-polka-pants.png’), helping customers discover your wares when searching online.

The Fulfillments page will now automatically show new pick lists as they are created, so you don’t have to reload the page to find the latest orders to pick & pack.

For retailers with a Shopify eCommerce integration, the supply price will now be imported when importing products from Shopify.

New Zealand retailers can now offer Klarna payments in-store. Klarna’s shop now, pay later app lets your customers pay for goods in 4 payments, paid every 2 weeks, with no interest added. Klarna is also available to UK, US & Australian retailers.

Scanning to receive now correctly updates received quantity

If you're scanning or just entering a product SKU in the search bar to receive that product, we'll now update the Received quantity, not the Ordered quantity so your inventory remains accurate.

Stock levels for composites are now accurate

When you previously received composite products, a bug was causing stock levels to double. We have now fixed this so that your stock levels for composites are accurate.

DAVO Sales Tax allows you to automate the sales tax collection, filing, and payments. There are no extra buttons to push or steps to take; simply enter sales like you normally would, and DAVO will do the rest. Available for US retailers only.

For retailers with eCommerce stores, SEO friendly product handles are now automatically generated following best practices for search engines. When you’re adding products to your catalog from within the app or CSV, handles will auto-generate based on the product name with hyphens replacing any spaces, so it can be used as the URL ‘slug’ for your products, without upsetting online search engines.

For example: If your Product name is Tigerlilly Summer Dress the handle will be tigerlilly-summer-dress.

Our recent tweaks to the Product Catalog will make it easier to keep your catalog clean and accurate.

• Variant attributes and values are now checked to ensure no duplicate values or mismatched attributes are created.
• Product ID is now required when uploading a CSV.

These extra safeguards are designed to help your catalog maintain its status as the single source of truth for your store.

Contactless payment via Google Pay or Apple Wallet with the AfterPay Card has replaced the barcode system, which AfterPay will be decommissioning soon. Customers paying via AfterPay should now be directed to pay via payment terminal.

Previously inventory reports were displaying line items, even if stock was 0 or negative. And for some retailers, the reports were incorrectly displaying negative average costs. Both these inaccuracies in historic inventory data have now been resolved.

Two-Factor Authentication adds an extra layer of security to your Vend software by using a secondary method of identity verification, in addition to your password. Available for Admin users, as best-practice for digital security, 2FA activation is highly recommended.

Product image updates made in Vend can now sync to BigCommerce & WooCommerce online storefronts, so you don’t have to double-handle images. This feature is available now for new connections. To request this feature for your store, get in touch.

Maximum image upload size has also been increased, with images of up to 8MB now being supported.

If you use BigCommerce or WooCommerce your staff can now see which online sales need to be picked up or delivered right from your Vend Sales History, speeding up fulfillment time without having to jump between platforms.

Now you can see what’s in transit directly from the sell screen once an order has been dispatched. Click on the blue truck on the sell screen to get an estimated arrival date instantly and let your customers know exactly when their favourite colour will be back in stock.

With the rise of contactless shopping, it’s also important to allow your customers to return products with ease.

Cashiers can now process a return of a product bought from any outlet in your Vend store. For example, a customer who bought a product through your online store can now choose to return it to their closest physical store.

Search by the customer name or the receipt number, find the associated sale, and process the return on the spot. Rest assured that the stock will be reflected accurately in each outlet and will be shown correctly in your reporting too!

Tip: If your cashier is making a return without an existing sale attached, we will prompt them to find the original sale!

You can now upload and select an image for each of your product variants in Vend! This means that it becomes easier to identify different colors, textures, and materials for the same product type!

If you are using Bigcommerce with Vend, you can now accept online Gift Certificates in-store! This lets your customers redeem their online gift certificates in-person, giving them a lot more flexibility with how they shop with you.

This also means gift certificates bought now can be redeemed later, opening up a new source of cash flow especially during the pandemic.

Our new "Just Receive" workflow aims to allow in-store staff to receive inventory into Vend quickly, without having to "fake" a purchase order, so that the products are available to be sold in store and online as soon as they physically arrive. Learn more

When cashiers are busy scanning items, they are not always looking at the Sell screen. This can result in them scanning something which is not found in Vend and not noticing that it wasn't added to the basket.

To avoid the risk of a customer walking out with a product that failed to scan, Vend will now notify the cashier when a product fails to scan - whether this is because the product has not been added to Vend, or the product code has simply been entered incorrectly.

Retailers in Australia and New Zealand can now connect Vend to MYOB AccountRight to automate their most painful accounting tasks and make tax time a breeze.

You can now look up an existing customer or add them if they don't already exist in Vend when emailing receipts. We've also added some in-app reminders to remind cashiers to add customer records when processing sales.

You can now use AirPrint in the iPad app to print your receipts using thousands of compatible desktop printers. This allows you to issue more professional looking A4/Letter sized invoices, or print the occasional receipt without purchasing a dedicated thermal printer. Learn more

We've added a "Receive" button on your Open Orders page to help you receive stock and sync your stock levels faster. This will reduce the manual effort of recording an order in Vend so that you can "Receive" stock more quickly.

If you're using Xero, you can now map Vend transactions into Xero using Tracking Categories, letting you monitor the performance of your outlets and online stores. Last month we released "What's In It" information for composite products within the product's expanded rows. We're now expanding this information so you can see the breakdown by Outlet. This allows you to see quickly where your low inventory is and help you make better ordering decisions.

Based on your feedback, we've made some further improvements to our Purchase Order page.

What's new:

• We've added a free-form Notes field for you to add custom information to your orders, like personal reminders or approval notes. These are searchable so you can identify them for future reference!
• Order numbers are now automatically generated on-screen as soon as you create a new PO. You can then add your own suffixes or adjustments to help you identify your orders easily.
• There is now a Preview section that allows your cashiers and managers to see the delivery status of items easily on screen. This key information may help them from losing sales of out-of-stock items!

Inventory Reports now allow you to group your data by product type, brand, supplier, and outlet so you can keep a close eye on performance. We've added product images to both Inventory and Sales reports so you can easily see the relationship between products and their performance.

You'll also be able to filter your Retail Dashboard by adding options like product type or tag so you can focus in on certain aspects of your business. Also, export your Inventory, Sales, Payment, and Tax reports to Excel (XLSX. format) any time for easy use. Read more

We're making some updates to the Products page, enabling you to quickly activate the products you wish to sell and publish them online - in bulk.

A new filter for active status, checkboxes per product and an option to "Select All" products are now available to all retailers.

If you sell online with BigCommerce or WooCommerce, you will soon have the option to select in bulk which products to publish or unpublish to your online store. 'Publish Products' and 'Unpublish Products' will be added to the 'Choose an Action' dropdown.

To give you the information you need to monitor the performance of your outlets and online stores, Vend now maps tracking categories into Xero. You can set these up in Vend or Xero so they get automatically assigned to each transaction, saving you time and giving you more visibility into the different areas of your business. Find out more

We've now included "What's In It" information for composite products within the product's expanded row to make it easier for you to make insight-driven inventory decisions.

This helps you see at a glance what makes up a composite product and aligns with what you'll see in the new Purchase Orders page, allowing you to add out-of-stock components to POs quickly.

Users with Manager and Admin permissions can now correct the Payment Type, Payment Date, and Payment Amount on existing sales in Sales History to ensure your payment reports balance out at the end of the day.

You can now use Excel spreadsheets in XLSX format for importing and exporting product information, making it easier to update products in bulk in Vend.

Exported spreadsheets in this format now also have helpful tips, explaining the purpose of each column and how to edit its contents. Columns are also sized appropriately, and cells are correctly formatted. CSVs can still be used for import and export but they don't include the benefits of XLSX. Learn more

If you're integrated with Xero Accounting and manage your On Account sales in Vend, you'll no longer need to check for payments from Xero individually by customer. Your customers' balances will automatically update when payments are reconciled in Xero. Find out more

Our New Purchase Order page makes it faster and easier to create a PO and add products to it. We've reduced the number of manual steps required when recording an order so that you can now add order details and products (including variants) on one page. Find out more

All email receipts sent from Vend will now contain a PDF attachment of the receipt so that your customers can download, print and keep a record of their purchases. This is also useful for invoicing and reconciliation, e.g. uploading a receipt to Expensify or Xero. Find out more

It's now easier than ever to identify your most profitable and popular products. With the new Sell Through Rate measure, you can easily discover what is selling well and what isn't.

With the latest version of Vend iOS, you can now retrieve parked sales directly from the Sell Screen. We've also replaced Void Sale with Discard Sale, and to keep reports tidy no record will be kept of discarded sales if no payment has been taken, no receipt has been printed, or no layby or return is made.

You will now find Park Sale and Discard Sale in the navigation bar of the Sell Screen, making them even easier to access.

Plus, the cash drawer will now open before setting your opening float (not afterward) and we've added support for partial refunds and exchanges when using iZettle. Find out more

Later this month you'll be able to group Sales, Inventory and Payment reports by day of the week and hour of the day, making it easier to drill into your store's activity and make decisions like when to be open to maximize your sales.

All report formatting options can now be found by clicking 'Format Results' - including options to group report rows by products or to show variants. Find out more

We've added new and more accurate 'Quick Cash' suggestions when accepting cash payments, saving time at checkout.

Plus, accepting split payments is now simpler with new help text to prompt Cashiers when processing these sales. Find out more

We've made it easier to find customers with enhanced search functionality on the customer page, plus new location filters and a datepicker. You can now also view all customer details (including store credit balance) in one place.

You no longer need the SKU or handle when uploading products using a CSV file. And, if you import a CSV with unrecognised column names, Vend will try to match these with expected ones. If essential information is still missing, you can download your CSV file with updated headings and re-upload it when fixed.

We're refreshing our Home screen dashboard to make it easier to use and more informative. You'll be able to compare daily, weekly and monthly figures against the relevant previous period. Plus, all results will be tax inclusive or exclusive to match your sales tax setup. Find out more

It's now possible to add more money to an existing gift card in Vend. All you need to do is search the gift card number from the Sell screen, then choose to add funds to the gift card. Find out more

We've made improvements to how Vend POS works with Vend Display, our customer facing display app for iPad. If you use Vend Display, please update BOTH apps (Vend POS and Vend Display) in order to continue selling. You can do this by going to the App Store > Updates then clicking 'UPDATE' next to Vend POS and Vend Display. Vend POS also now supports all Star mC-Print2 and mC-Print3 printer models, and has had some minor bug fixes and performance enhancements.

As a default permission, Cashiers were previously unable to delete products in Vend. Now Admin users have the flexibility to choose whether Cashier or Managers are authorized to delete products in Vend.

It's now possible to limit the amount of times a promo code can be redeemed in your store. Reward shoppers that get in first and ensure your promo codes aren't being over-used. Find out more

We've updated how filters work when setting up a promotion in Vend, so it's easier to include or exclude specific items from a promotion. Products will now only be included or excluded if they satisfy all different filters used to create a promotion, such as tag, type, brand, and supplier. You can always check which products your promotion will be applied to by looking under Type of Promotion. Find out more

It's now easy to see which employees issued store credit to a customer and why. Just click the customers' details at the Sell screen to view who issued store credit, along with any related notes. Find out more

We're making improvements to our Sell screen on iPad to make checkout even faster for you and your shoppers.

What's changing?

• Search bars will appear on the Sell screen and will be split into Product and Customer search, making it easier to add relevant items or shoppers to a sale.
• On-Account, Loyalty and Store Credit balances can be viewed when a customer is added to a sale. Just click on the customer to expand and view their details.
• Notes can now be added in a single click, from the bottom of the cart.
• The slide-to-delete function for products is now disabled. To remove a product from a sale, simply click on the trash symbol next to an item.
• When a large number of products has been added to a sale, the ADD section will disappear while scrolling down, giving you more room to see what's in the cart. The section will then reappear when scrolling back up again.

Canadian retailers using Chase Merchant Services will now be able to directly connect with Vend on iPad to take faster, more secure payments in-store. Chase lets you accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as contactless payments such as Apple Pay. Find out more

Worldpay triPOS has released Fast Access Funding, which lets you access your funds in a matter of hours instead of days - even on weekends and public holidays. You can batch out anytime and receive funds in as little as an hour. You can also enable auto-batching (up to 5 times per day) to schedule payments at a time that best suits you, for example 11pm each day. Find out more

We've made it even easier for retailers to encourage spending in-store with Tiered Promotions. Stores can set up a range of offers that reward shoppers for buying more items, for example buying 1 shirt to save 10% or buying 2 shirts to save 20%. You can also incentivise by dollar amount, such as spending $100 to get a free book, or $250 to get 3 free books. Find out more

• Quick user switching for iPad

If a user role (e.g. cashier) in Vend does not have permission to apply promotions at the Sell screen, it's possible to switch users during a sale to apply a promotion with a relevant user role (e.g. manager or admin).

If you have seasonal employees, or just want extra security over your store data, you can now disable users temporarily without deleting their account or login details. While a user is disabled, they're unable to sign in to Vend. Just enable them again so they can log in and start selling right away. Find out more

We've just released iOS version 2.7 of the Vend POS app, which includes major behind-the-scenes changes to improve overall app performance and enhancements to our new promotions feature. We've added support for Afterpay in Australia and New Zealand, and improvements to our integration with iZettle. Our Customer Facing Display app has also been updated with some performance enhancements.

We've made enhancements to the Sell screen on the web. The updates provide more information about your sales, such as Promotions that have been applied to the sale. No existing workflows have been removed, and the changes only add functionality to the Sell screen. Find out more
